The Menopause
The menopause is the name given to the time when a woman's menstrual cycle ceases, menstruation stops and fertility comes to an end. Commonly referred to as 'the change of life'.
However, the process of the menopause usually takes about ten years to complete and this period before the menopause is known as the peri-menopause.
This process usually starts around the age of 45 and ends at around 55.
During this period many hormonal changes take place, the level of oestrogen reduces and affects the menstrual flow until it stops altogether.
This may also be accompanied by unpleasant symptoms, which may only last for months or for several years. Symptoms
